I'm not sure exactly what the author meant by this but when I read it, what I took away from it was interesting. What I took away from it was that cultures aren't really there for individuality, its more there to make someone seem more important and feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves. I thought that was interesting because I've never really thought about the concept of what a culture actually is, and its an interesting way to think about something.
